Add a falsely flagged file or folder to the exlusions list is a very similar process with all antivirus but not surprisingly, Symantec, better known as Norton antivirus, makes it more complicated than most other antivirus software, including the free ones.

To whitelist or safelist a file (or folder) in Symantec antivirus software:

  1. Double click on the tray icon for Symantec that will be in your PC's system tray. This makes Norton visible.
  2. Click the Settings button towards the top of the Symantec window.
  3. Click on the square or tile labeled Antivirus.
  4. Click the tab with the text Scans and Risks.
  5. Scroll down the pane on the right until you get to the section with the text of Exclusions / Low Risks.
