The purpose of a user agent string is to help a web service provide the most relevant content relative to the program making the http request as well as the operating system of the device that is hosting the program. For example, the type of resource that would be provide for a mobile phone or tablet could be totally different from the optimized content that would be delivered to a desktop device or computer.
